On this Make-It-Yourself Monday we bring you a cute and classy alternative to a ring bearer pillow. We’ll show you a simple way to turn a plain outdoor candle lantern into a unique ring holder for the ring bearer or flower girl to carry down the aisle. This lantern is perfect for an outdoor country chic wedding or change the paint color and filling to create a look that’s more your style.
Supplies needed: small candle lantern (we love the “ROTERA” from IKEA), spray paint (we suggest white semigloss or matte black), moss (found at your local craft store like Michaels), ribbon, and fake rings (optional but a little less risky then using the real rings)
Begin by removing the glass window panes from the lantern (we suggest the IKEA lanterns because it makes this step very quick and easy), make sure all surfaces are clean from dust and dirt. Spray paint entire lantern, hitting all angles inside and out. Let dry completely.
Once its dry replace the glass windows. Now its time to attach the ribbon which can be done a number of ways depending on whether you will be needing to remove the rings (if using the wedding bands) or permanently leave in a fake ring. You can use tape, glue, scrapbook sticky dots, gum.. okay maybe stray away from that last one but its up to you how you get it to stick just make sure you hang the ribbon loop in the center and leave room for the moss to fit below.
Now all that’s left to do is fill the lantern floor with a filler of your choice, but we like the bright green moss to add some vibrant, natural color to make it really pop.
We hope you enjoyed this EngagedNowWhat.com exclusive, and hope that it might have inspired you to think outside of the box when it comes to traditional wedding accessories. The little details really can make all the difference for your big day!
