Posted Monday April 23rd, 2012 – DIY Burlap Flowers
Today we bring you a crafty, Make-It-Yourself Monday project, featuring a step by step lesson in creating your own burlap flowers. These adorable fabric flowers can liven up any vase, centerpiece, candle, gift bag, you name it! Not only are they a cute addition to a natural table top design, but they are actually pretty simple to make as well. So save a little money on your wedding decor and explore your crafty side with these Do-It-Yourself Burlap Flowers!
Supplies: Scissors, role of 12 inch burlap fabric or table runner, and hot glue gun
Step 1: Begin by cutting a 3 inch by 12 inch strip of burlap fabric.
Step 2: Glue one end of fabric and fold it in about a 1/2 inch (to secure end threads).
Step 3: Use scissors to snip one thread about a 1/2 inch in on the NON-GLUED end of fabric and begin pulling the cut thread (slowly working it while holding the rest of the fabric secure). It will begin to bunch.
Step 4: Continue pulling thread until a tight bunched flower has formed and thread can no longer pull. Next wrap the thread in the same direction once around the center of the flower and tie it to itself (securing thread so it will not unwrap). You can use the hot glue gun or a knot to secure. Then cut the excess thread.
That’s it! Pretty simple right? You now have a classy, natural burlap flower to dress up almost anything. Glue it to strip of extra burlap material to be placed around a vase or group it with a couple more flowers and they look cute by themselves. If burlap isn’t your thing, then try these steps with your favorite loose threaded fabric and the possibilities are endless!
