Hawaiian Destination Wedding

Ever dream of getting married on the beach at sunset in Hawaii? Well so did Alicia and her dream came true when she married Tyler at Gannon’s Restaurant in Maui. Alicia and Tyler had only 25 of their closest family members there to witness it. Alicia, having been a wedding coordinator in Sacramento, knew exactly what she wanted: beautiful flowers, good photography and an adorable cake. With having such a small group, Alicia wanted to have one large king/s table for all of her guests to sit at. The middle of the table was filled with fresh Hawaiian flowers, a bright pink table runner and lots of candle light. They flew a family friend and local photographer, Lexigraphics to Hawaii to capture these special details and amazing memories.

“My favorite part of the day was taking pictures on the beach after the ceremony! It was such a romantic setting, and we LOVE how our pictures turned out. It was also great because we left all the guests and had a few minutes to ourselves on the beach, which is something I will always remember.” – Alicia

If Only I Could Have Known – Maid of Honor

The “If Only I Could Have Known” blogs are written by brides who would like to share their stories with future brides. This first one is a pretty funny one and is written by a friend who would like to stay anonymous.

The “Maid of Horror” Edition

Honor. Hmmm, now there’s an important word. You know, that word meaning “a valued opportunity to serve a worthy cause” or “a special privilege that is cherished by someone.”

Maid of Honor. Oh, now we’re getting serious. Maid of Honor, it really IS quite the title and one that not everyone gets to experience. That one female who you love above all. The one who is there to cater to your every need physically and emotionally; your confidant, your right-hand gal, your chief attendant. But everyone knows this right? Well, I’m here to tell you otherwise.

Growing up I always knew that my older sister was going to be my Maid of Honor. I love her. She is and always was my best friend. Why would I ever want to choose anyone other than her? Oh, if only I had known.

Have you ever seen that movie Something Borrowed? You know Darcy, the character that Kate Hudson plays in that movie? Well my sister, Jamie (names have been changed in order to protect the identities… and pride, of the individual), is exactly THAT girl. THAT girl who loves herself more than love itself. THAT girl who thinks everything is (and should be) centered around her. THAT girl who cannot even stand the thought of being put second to anyone or anything.

And I know you are sitting there right now thinking “Well, if you knew she was like this, why would you want her to be your Maid of Honor?” But here’s the thing, I looked past it. Even though she was THAT girl, she was also THAT girl who was always there for me when I needed her, and she was THAT girl who I wanted to be there for me on my big day! And why wouldn’t she? She knew this was going to be MY day. For once it was going to be all about me, right? Wrong. I had never been more wrong about anything.

Just to give you a little idea of what my Maid of Honor experience consisted of, below are two lists. The list to the left is some BASIC Maid of Honor duties and responsibilities. To the right are the corresponding duties and how my sister decided to handle them. Please, enjoy a laugh or two on my expense.

My Maid of Honor experience is one that I would wish upon no other, and wish I would have been warned beforehand to watch out for. So here it is. Your warning. If I could leave you with no other words of advice it would be: “Pick with Trust”. Ask yourself, is my best friend, sister, cousin (whoever she is) THAT girl? Or is she someone who you can trust above anyone to be there with you throughout your wedding process; offering her help and advice in any way she can?

In this decision, love is just not enough. You know you love them, they know you love them, but if you can’t trust em’, don’t choose em’. So I say it again: Pick with Trust, Not with Love J (ok, maybe just a little love).

Tip from ENW: We highly suggest if you have a sister that is THAT girl to have two Maid of Honors. One that is the trust worthy friend that is going to be there for you and one that is your sister because after all she still is your sister. You don’t want feeling hurt but you also need someone to be by your side throughout the planning. Most likely when your sister see’s your other Maid of Honor stepping up and being the super hero then she will want to too. Two is always better then one.

Loomis Backyard Extravagant Wedding

We wanted our very first real wedding for our blog to be a very special one. We couldn’t ask for a better wedding to feature then this! Parmis & Kevin got married this summer at their gorgeous house in Loomis that overlooks the north end of Folsom Lake. The couple was engaged for 2 years while they built their dream house from the ground up. They were married on the couples 6 year anniversary of being together in the backyard of the home. The wedding was filled with American traditions mixed with Persian traditions and also incorporated both the bride and grooms personality and style. When it came to transforming their backyard from ordinary to extraordinary they hired Fearon May Events to help them create their dream design. The design included a Plexiglass dance floor over their infinity pool, a tent made out of white draping and market lights, a ton of candles and lots of white orchids. This was such an amazing wedding and we hope you get lots of ideas and inspiration from their pictures. They were captured by Sam from Sharpe Photographers. Enjoy!

“The trick to the wedding was taking the lavish ceremony site set for 150 guests and turning it into the reception room within an hour, while guests mingled in the house. It was tricky, but with a great team we were able to accomplish it and seeing the guests face when they walked down the stairs was priceless. They couldn’t believe that it was the same space. We planned it so they would walk down right at sunset which really created different lighting and a sense of a new reception space.”

Because the couple is not big on cake, they decided to replace the cake with something they do love…CHEESE! If you look closely, the cake is made out of giant wheels of cheese cascading with white orchids and displayed like a wedding cake. They cut into blue cheese, the couples favorite and fed each other a slice. The cake was then cut up and served with crackers and bread as a late night snack. Little boxes that said “Eat, Drink and Be Married” were provided for the guests to take some cheese and dessert home with them.
